A dynamic conductor, an evocative composer, and a penetrating scholar, Seth Houston is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Choral Conducting at the University of Southern California where he studies with Jo-Michael Scheibe, Morten Lauridsen, Nick Strimple, and Magen Solomon. Houston also holds a M.M. in Choral Conducting from the University of Colorado and a B.Mus. in composition from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. The recipient of numerous academic awards and prizes, Houston’s research interests include the music of Machaut, Schumann, and Stravinsky. Houston directed high school and middle school choirs for eight years in New Hampshire, California, and Colorado. He also founded and directed the Vermont-based youth choir Big Sky and leads a popular series of choral workshops throughout the country. Houston’s compositions are widely performed throughout North America and Europe and have been featured on “A Prairie Home Companion,” in Sing Out magazine, at the Smithsonian Institution, and in numerous recordings and anthologies. |
